Description:

The Education Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the Education programme in Lebanon through organizing and delivering Education activities in line with SBO’s strategy and standards.

The role also includes management and capacity building of SBO staff.

Coordinating education activities across two centres according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans.

Tasks:

•Working with senior management to develop educational strategy for Lebanon education centres.

• Monitoring delivery of curricula in English, Math, Science and other subjects.

•Create record of curricula, schemes of work and lesson plans for all subjects across all two centres.

•Create shared drive for all teaching staff across two centres to promote resource sharing.

•Evaluate quality of curriculum delivery, learning environment and student satisfaction.

•Oversee assessment of students to track students’ progress and adapt curricula accordingly.

•Report results of monitoring back to senior management.

• Maintaining inventory of educational resources and ensuring centres are equipped with the required resources to successfully deliver curricula.

•Ensuring high quality teaching in all subjects across all two centres.

•Oversee teacher training of staff and volunteers and support staff to lead training sessions.

•Hold meetings with teaching staff to share ideas and challenges.

•Evaluate teaching in each centre and provide support and guidance.

•Collaborate with centre psychologists to ensure that staff and students are receiving adequate and appropriate support and intervention and that safeguarding referral mechanisms are being utilized.

•Contributing to project development.

•Work with Project Development Officer to maintain and develop the monitoring and evaluation framework for the education programme.

•Support Project Development Officer to seek new funding and development opportunities for the education programme.

•Contributing to communications.

•Sharing achievements and updates from education programme with Communications Officer.

•Providing feedback to senior management on SB communications.

•Representing SB at education network meetings and adapting education programme according to external developments.

Roles:

Implementing qualitative educational support to the children benefiting from the educational programs.

• Planning and implementing lessons as per the directions of the education specialist.

• Preparing a file for each child as per the directions of specialist and team leader.

• Providing age appropriate supervision and discipline.

• Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the child.

• Addressing cultural and special needs.

• Contributing to the ongoing operations of the center.

• Keeping an ongoing positive communication with the parents.

• Teaching and educating students according to the educational needs, abilities and attainment potential of individual students entrusted to his/her care.

• Preparation of curriculum and daily lesson plans based on student needs.

• Develop active learning instructional strategies to enhance learning.

• Conduct pre and post testing of all students to measure degree of change in English knowledge

• Maintain attendance sheets.

• Provide ongoing support to volunteers.

Required skills/experience:

• TESOL/TEFL or other ESL teaching qualifications

• Prior experience teaching English as a second language to refugees

• experience two years.

• Skills in cross-cultural communication, organization, planning and teaching/instruction preferably as an Arabic speaker.

  • Ability to manage classroom behavior with students who can be challenging.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English;

ESL Officer Intern

Job Title: ESL Officer INTERN

Period: (6 months’ internship + 250$/month)

Starting date: April 2019

Location: Lebanon

Working Days: (from Monday to Friday 8H – Saturday 5H)

Description: SB Overseas is looking for an enthusiastic and qualified ESL teacher to help run one of our schools for refugee children in Lebanon. Your main responsibilities will be following the curriculum with the Education Officer and providing support to teachers and volunteers. In our schools, volunteers are primarily responsible for leading English lessons with refugee children who have beginning literacy or low beginning ESL. In some cases, volunteers also teach Maths and Science with the assistance of our teaching staff.

We deliver a curriculum of remedial education for young refugee children who have missed out on one or more years of their education. The refugee children in our schools need remedial education in order to have a chance of passing entry tests for the Lebanese public education system. Without access to public education, they risk missing out on an education permanently and becoming a ‘lost generation’.

Position reports to: Education Officer.

Position in the center: S/he collaborates closely with Education Officer, Education supervisor, manager of the center, teachers, team leader and volunteers.
