Job Title: ESL Officer INTERN

Period: (6 months’ internship + 250$/month)

Starting date: April 2019

Location: Lebanon

Working Days: (from Monday to Friday 8H – Saturday 5H)

Description: SB Overseas is looking for an enthusiastic and qualified ESL teacher to help run one of our schools for refugee children in Lebanon. Your main responsibilities will be following the curriculum with the Education Officer and providing support to teachers and volunteers. In our schools, volunteers are primarily responsible for leading English lessons with refugee children who have beginning literacy or low beginning ESL. In some cases, volunteers also teach Maths and Science with the assistance of our teaching staff.

We deliver a curriculum of remedial education for young refugee children who have missed out on one or more years of their education. The refugee children in our schools need remedial education in order to have a chance of passing entry tests for the Lebanese public education system. Without access to public education, they risk missing out on an education permanently and becoming a ‘lost generation’.

Position reports to: Education Officer.

Position in the center: S/he collaborates closely with Education Officer, Education supervisor, manager of the center, teachers, team leader and volunteers.

Roles/ Duties:

Implementing qualitative educational support to the children benefiting from the educational programs.

• Planning and implementing lessons as per the directions of the education specialist.

• Preparing a file for each child as per the directions of specialist and team leader.

• Providing age appropriate supervision and discipline.

• Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the child.

• Addressing cultural and special needs.

• Contributing to the ongoing operations of the center.

• Keeping an ongoing positive communication with the parents.

• Teaching and educating students according to the educational needs, abilities and attainment potential of individual students entrusted to his/her care.

• Preparation of curriculum and daily lesson plans based on student needs.

• Develop active learning instructional strategies to enhance learning.

• Conduct pre and post testing of all students to measure degree of change in English knowledge

• Maintain attendance sheets.

• Provide ongoing support to volunteers.

Required skills/experience:

• TESOL/TEFL or other ESL teaching qualifications

• Prior experience teaching English as a second language to refugees

• Commitment to teach for 6 months

• Skills in cross-cultural communication, organization, planning and teaching/instruction preferably as an Arabic speaker.

  • Previous teaching experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – word processing, spread sheets, etc.
  • Experience working with children from difficult backgrounds
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior with students who can be challenging.
  • Ability to create new and adapt current curriculum that is engaging and relevant for our students


  • Fluency in English;

Project Development Intern

Senior Development Project Officer

Responsible For:   Development Project Intern + VCO + Communication Intern + Espoir Team Leader.

Start: 26/08/2019 training; 2/09/2019 contract start

The position of Senior Development Project Officer is responsible for the identification, planning and implementation of development projects; and the search for stable, continuous and reliable sources of funds.


Primary Tasks:

Review and analyze the monthly reports from the centres to determine development project and funding requirements, and brief the Chairperson on content and concerns.

Review and analyze the reports from SB Espoir and Volunteers Programme to identify development projects and funding needs, and brief the Chairperson on content and concerns.

Research calls and other sources of funds from corporations, foundations, government organisations, and other international organisations.

Engage in direct contact with potential donors, corporations and potential sources of funds.

Preparation of reports and official letters for sponsors/donors providing updates and end-of-project reports with regard to expenditure of funds and overall success of the project.

Supervise, the Development Project Intern, VCO + Communication Intern + Espoir Team Leader.

Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all stakeholders and ensuring that issues are presented to right team/ individual for resolution and closure.

Manage the development, review and finalization of monthly project work plans.

Contribute to the development and implementation of multi-country program initiatives.

Prepare an implementation plan, timeline and cost for each approved development project.

Evaluate, monitor and report to Chairperson on projects at SB HQ.

Prepare development project proposals for presentation to the Chairperson.

Monitor project implementation progress, and identify and address implementation challenges in collaboration with HOM and headquarter staff.

Manage the development of ESPIRE program budgets and budget modifications, and monitor program expenditures to ensure activities are implemented within budgetary guidelines.

Monitor changes to the project scope, schedule and costs and report or escalate to the unit directors as needed

Participate in the design and implementation of assessments, program reviews and evaluation activities.

Manage the documentation and dissemination of project results, including preparation and submission of progress reports, presentations, and other program documentation

Support teams in the development and management of sub-agreements scopes of work and sub-agreement budgets, and monitoring progress of contract deliverables and expenses

Acquire proficiency in organization approved project management and data analysis tools and support the development of new tools
Award Management.

Support the development of proposals on a need basis as proposal manager.

Monitor the timelines for all donor action such as prior approval, continuation application etc.

Prepare donor requirements package by driving and participating in the process with the relevant stakeholders.

Engage with Team after the submission of the process to close any gaps in information.

External Relationships.

Develop and maintain working relationships with donors, partners and other stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with donor requirements and procedures and contribute to the preparation and implementation of corrective action plans.

Attending conference to present SB work in BEL and LEB.
Search for new partner.


Secondary Tasks:

Point of Contact for Monthly Reports from the centres.
Oversight and quality control of SB Espoir weekend reports prepared by the Espoir TL.
Assisting Chairwomen in meeting.

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.
Three years of development project experience.
Two years of fundraising experience.
Experience writing proposals and presentations
Experience in monitoring and evaluation.
Excellent communication skills.
Fluent in English and French.
Good computer skills.
Supervisory experience.
