60-year-old woman in Arsal
In Syria I lived a happy life with my parents, I used to have my own income from selling embroidering pieces with my mother. After the war started we had to move to Arsal, my married brother became our caregiver since my mom and me did not have anyone else. Soon my mom and my brother died from an unfortunate accident, they were buried here. Now I live with my sister and help her raise her 4 children, we opened a store to have some income. Despite my worries about leaving my nephews at home, I still attend SB’s sewing classes regularly and try really hard to be a top student, so I can get a sewing machine. Going to class gives me the opportunity to get out of my depressing environment and learn things that can benefit me in my daily life.

En Syrie, je vivais une vie heureuse avec mes parents. J’avais mes propres revenus en vendant des broderies avec ma mère. Après le début de la guerre, nous avons dû déménager à Arsal. Mon frère marié est devenu notre fournisseur de soins, car ma mère et moi n’avions personne d’autre. Ensuite, ma mère et mon frère sont morts d’un accident malheureux, ils ont été enterrés ici. Maintenant, je vis avec ma sœur et je l’aide à élever ses 4 enfants. Nous avons ouvert un magasin pour avoir un revenu. Malgré mes inquiétudes de laisser mes neveux à la maison, j’assiste toujours régulièrement aux cours de couture de SB et j’essaie vraiment d’être une excellente élève afin de pouvoir me procurer une machine à coudre. Aller en cours me donne l’occasion de sortir de mon environnement déprimant et d’apprendre des choses qui peuvent me servir au quotidien.
