AWARENESS
What we do?
Belgian Support Beyond Borders (SBO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development, working in the fields of inclusion and integration of migrant and refugee communities in Belgium (Brussels), the MENA region, and the Global South. We assist vulnerable and displaced populations, affected by conflicts or climate changes, by providing immediate and long-term educational and humanitarian support to improve their quality of life and promote their self-reliance. SBO is committed to serving the most vulnerable women, youth, and children with innovation and determination, aiming to build a more inclusive and equitable future for all. We advocate for their rights at local, national, European, and international levels through our initiatives focused on children’s education, women’s empowerment, equal opportunities, human rights, and youth as agents of change.
SBO operates both in Belgium, where its headquarters are located, and in the MENA region and the Global South.
In the MENA region and the Global South, we engage with local communities to support educational and empowerment programs tailored to local needs. We offer informal education to children and youth, providing them with the tools to access the official school system and realize their full potential. For women, we provide empowerment programs, capacity building, and psychological support, enabling them to shape their own future through our leadership, entrepreneurship, socio-professional integration, and social inclusion programs.
In Belgium, SBO collaborates with a diverse network of partners to implement projects aimed at migrant women (first, second, third generation; asylum seekers; migrants; refugees; newcomers), migrant youth (unaccompanied foreign minors, migrants, refugees, asylum seekers), and local youth. These projects cover various themes such as citizenship, entrepreneurship, self-development, social cohesion, art, culture, and sports. Our social inclusion goal is to reconnect the most disadvantaged and marginalized groups in the area with the wider civil society. Our long-term vision focuses on eradicating racism and discrimination through intercultural and multicultural sharing, promoting living and working together as the main vector.
SBO is committed to enabling the planet and all its people to get back on the path of sustainability. In this regard, we primarily work on the following 5 Sustainable Development Goals:
Quality Education (4)
Gender Equality (5)
Decent Work and Economic Growth (8)
Reduced Inequalities (10)
Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (16)
Partnerships for the Goals (17)
