As the summer officially starts, so does it mark the end of another cycle of activities In the SB Espoir project. So, we take this opportunity to reflect on the year, and thank everyone who was part of the activities, you readers for keeping up to date, everyone who supported us, and especially our volunteers who joined the activities. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will come back in September with more activities at the 4 centres.\n If you want to join the SB Espoir program as a volunteer just send us \nan email<\/a>.  In the meantime, we leave you with some of the highlights from the activities this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launching the \u201cSon Choix, Son Avenir\u201d extension of SB Espoir: After \nmonths of planning and learning about women\u2019s needs we created SB \nOverSeas new project: \u201cSon Choix Son Avenir\u201d (her choices, her future) a\n project that is now focusing on promoting social inclusion, personal \ndevelopment and access of opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday April 14, 2019 we had the opportunity to do our first activity at the  Croix-Rouge de Belgique<\/a>\n center in Jette, the activity theme was \u201csa sant\u00e9, son avenir\u201d we \ntalked about healthy eating, made together granola and decorated jars \nfor the granola that the women and our volunteers took home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pizza-making activity<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homemade pizza was for dinner on Saturday 22 June, 2019 at the women\u2019s asylum seeker reception centre where we prepared pizza together from scratch for the whole center.<\/a>
\nDuring the activity everyone received and SB recipe book, which they \ncould personalize with different craft materials. These books will hold \nall the recipes from the activities we have done and the ones we will do\n in the future, this way once they leave the centre they can always \nconsult the book and prepare the recipes on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These\n are some highlights from the activities with the youth at the centres \nin Woluwe Saint-Pierre, Uccle and Neder-Over-Heembeek.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting<\/em> Mini <\/em>E<\/em>urope <\/em>with the youth at Uccle and <\/em>Woluwe<\/em> Saint-Pierre<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we visited Mini Europe<\/a> with\n SB Espoir, the youth illustrated this juxtaposition: the western \nvolunteer who upon seeing the Big Ben replica talked about her time \nvisiting London, and the young refugee talking about the police in \nHungary that beat him at the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building a hydraulic-powered maze<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can 4 people who all speak a different language make it through a maze by working together?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were challenged to do this today at the Fedasil Woluwe Saint Pierre<\/a>\n Centre that hosts asylum seeking young people. In the groups we made \nfor this activity the youth had few common languages to communicate, \nhowever we made it work.  Check out the video<\/a> to see how we manage to do this activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Problem-solving workshop<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the youth from Uccle and Avi from Pathways Institute for \nNegotiation Education, we learned about negotiation and what skills that\n are useful for day-to-day life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a series of activities, the youth learned that it\u2019s always most important to ask the question \u201cwhy\u201d<\/a> when you want something from someone, or they want something from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friendly football game<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was the best football match in my life ever,\u201d an ecstatic \nrain-drenched goalkeeper exclaimed to the group gathered on a pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a brisk Brussels Sunday afternoon in Ixelles, where the refugee youth from the Red Cross Centre in Uccle were playing their first full-pitch match against graduate students<\/a> from the Brussels School of International Studies (BSIS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music with Violet <\/em>vzw<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music, dancing and breaking barriers all of these elements were \nbrought to the youth at the Fedasil Centre in Neder-Over-Heembeek with \nthe help of Violet vzw, a youth orchestra group<\/a> from Oud-Heverlee, Belgium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
