            One\nof my favourite parts of being a Volunteer Coordinator is to meet others who\nare passionate about social change. Working with SB Overseas, I have the\npriviledge to meet persons whose motivation, creativity and dedication inspire\nme on a daily basis. We at SB\nrecently met two groups of young professionals that I found particularly\nstriking.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Our\nSB Espoir Project Coordinator, Marco Cagnolati, and I met with a wonderful\ngroup of fellows from the Humanity\nin Action Pat Cox Fellowship<\/a>. This Fellowship brings together groups of young professionals from\naround the world for 3 month traineeships at the European Parliament and NGOs\nin Brussels. Coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Greece, the\nNetherlands and the United States, between them, the fellows spoke an impressive range of\nlanguages. What united this group was their drive for contributing to positive\nchange. Marco and I had\ninitially planned to make a one-hour\npresentation and Q&A, but\nwith their insightful and though-provoking questions, one hour turned into\nthree!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Some days later, our Chair and I\nwere invited to speak at the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe<\/a>. We met a class of Master students\nbased in Limerick who were in Leuven for a few days as part of a study trip.\nSeveral of them came to speak to us after the lecture. An Irish and a\nPalestinian student seemed particularly moved by our Chair’s account of life in\nSyria after 2011 and thanked us for showing them that something can be done\neven in the face of the biggest of challenges. We had coffee with the class and\ntheir professor and I had the chance to speak to each student and hear about\ntheir personal projects. Again, what united these students from all over the\nworld was the desire to make a positive contribution to their community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            These lectures reminded me just how\nimportant it is not only to work hard for the development and implementation of\na project you believe in, but to share it with others so that you can encourage\nthem to believe in the power of their ideas. As Margaret Mead said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNever doubt that a small group of thoughtful,\ncommitted citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever\nhas\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
